  • A road trip with N

day 1

My eight years old daughter packed her own bag for five days road trip. First stop we dropped off tote bags at The Arts Center Corvallis and saw their current ink on watercolor paper show. Great understanding of water movements. She wanted to leave because "too bored."

Ashland is pretty and our hosts are great people, so we stayed two nights and tasted the mineral water. The wild life observing was a refreshing perspective in viewing a person's morning and evening life. Another sense of community and family, another kind of sharing time together.

day 2

Three hours of workshop, the team of six adults and two children made a precious morning together. Objects carry memories and connect all of us.

The science museum was N's trip highlight. The excitement also came from the running of the only 30-minutes visit. We ran to capture every second in the museum to make it fun.

day 3

Stopped so often on the road, as if we can stretch the day longer by doing so. No need for lunch, but we stopped at a river side restaurant to just enjoy a nice sunny morning. I don't need anything so I ordered a salad. N got a root beer with ice cream, sweet things and good view.

We got to camp sit by 4pm then went to the beach. The sand in the wind was cutting N's feet. I carried three bags of food, drinks, book, blanket, etc. Couldn't sit down to enjoy any, but glad they hold me down from the wind.

We picked wood and made a fire. N created a pencil out of the biggest wood stick. She drew things I didn't understand.

day 4

harvested some shell fish at one beach, cooked them all and ate them all by myself that evening because no one else dare. Tasted great but I cut my finger for them.

Stopped at the farmers market at Yachats and enjoy a crepe and a local Yachats morning. Went to see my friend at Newport, shared a moment of sunshine on the deck.

Met up with N's friend, she got her good beach time but we missed the sunset. Forgot all about it at the camp site.

Fireworks were ok. Met two group of people, a large group tried to camp right on the beach, and the group of youths shotting firework in any direction.

day 5

We went to Astoria for a town strolling and decide to eat take-out food cart lunch at Chinese park. Took a good look at the design during the lunch hour and many questions rose. Went to Vancouver and it was so hoooot. N wasn't hungry even for sushi. We got a boba tea then head home.

Good view, good people, good trip.

  • A Trip to the Coast

coffee is a thing that reveals the truth of a strange couple, Stain on the sheet is a funny detail. Cloudy day meant no sunset. Local bar full of ladies sang Karaoke. Old smoking lady said I danced well. Breakfast with oysters and a sunny beach view. Kids worked in the restaurant like done it their entire life, focus and professionally quick.
